For a Nurse:
The home health nurse came yesterday to change wound vac dressings and he told me that the outside of my stage IV Ischial wound is concerning him because the outside is becoming closed. There are still 2 tunnels inside, one is about 3cm deep the other about 3.5cm deep. My wound doc is on vacation for the next 3 weeks and is not available immediately to answer this question. What is done to prevent the wound from closing? Debridment? The nurse could not tell me what to do, and told me to wait until he saw me again this Monday. I'm wondering if I'm going to have to make another trip to the ER for this, and have another last minute surgery, where they will go in and do the bone debridment anyway, before anything is for sure, or if it can wait. The nurse did not tell me what the size of the opening was, he just said it was very small since he last saw me earlier last week, on Weds, and the doc saw me last Monday, but didn't say anything about this. Will foam keep the wound from closing if the wound vac is still in place?
Also, I'm in limbo right now, waiting to have an MRI in about 3 weeks to determine if osteomyelitis is present, as the MRI I had a couple of weeks ago when I was admitted to the hospital for (another) infection, it could not be positively determined if there was a bone infection present.
