Hi all,
For the past year and a half I've been without my (rehab) Permobil power wheelchairs. Prior to having a rehab power wheelchairs. I never had muscle spasms. The Permobils I had allowed me to relieve spastic activity (that came along with growth spurts for the past 13.5 years). When I did have a way to independently relieve these spasms (eg through standing, reclining, and tilting the seat back in the wheelchair), along with anti-spasm meds (Baclofen 20mg. 4.5x a day), they went away. Now that I've been in my manual wheelchair (with the inability to release my spasms) they have increased. My Ortho/Rehab physician has put me on a low dosage of Diazepam (5mg. 2x a day) to hopefully help the increased spastic activity, even with increased meds the muscle spams are frequent in all four limbs at different times. I know this sounds crazy, but can muscles become accustomed to a set schedule of independent relief and retaliate if not?
Thanks for your input!
