Footrest removal??

Can I removed the footrest off a rigid frame (Tra,aero t, Zra, or aero z) so I can use my feet while in the chair or will this affect the integrity of the chair and make it unsafe or make it weak by the front casters and allow for frame to bend/warp/tweak etc.

Think I broke a toe, at least

Was turning in my van and my foot got caught on the side. Didn't notice till it got loose and had a spasm, but no dysreflexia. That happened last Thursday. Here is how my looks today. Anything I should do? Other than be more careful.

Need a new video card and SSD drive for Windows 10.

The families first computer was an Apple II E, my first computer was a Orange plus both of them have 5.25" floppies the parents had dual drives, I had a single.

My first PC was an 8086 1 MHz chip with one 1 MB of RAM. Now have a Quad four processor and 16 GB of RAM.

Thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 to do this I want to install new video card (on this one because it was silent, sensitive to sound) and instead of buying a new computer the best way to speed it up is with a solid-state drive (SSD).

I'm thinking about getting a Samsung Pro 500 GB SSD does anybody have any thoughts perhaps a hybrid drive?

Also wanted to do a new graphics card which I know absolutely nothing about. I watch movies on Netflix or CDs or downloads but besides that not much

I do use Dragon NaturallySpeaking and I like to have that a very high priority service. So plan on installing an SSD drive and having the libraries point to my external SATA drives. Like the movies, they would point to my external hard drive storing the computer movies, then the movie I selected will get moved to the SSD drive and play from their if it doesn't get loaded into RAM.

So if you are buying a new video card to watch movies and antenna TV, Netflix, Bogart, Cary Grant movies and maybe Star Wars.

My priorities are speed, silence and the applications I will use most of are Firefox browser and DragonNaturallySpeaking version 12.

Can no longer keep up with technological changes somebody out there must've researched it recently and thank you for any advice you may have to offer.

Nurses can't change the cathater

So I use a 14 French suprapubic catheter, my incision has healed around very well so much so you can't fit 16. CCAC comes once a month to change the thing, But I just moved to the cities i usually see the same nurses in my hometown. These nurses up in the city can change it they can't get it out, The guy that tried is the best with super pubic's in this area!!! Getting pretty full of sediment!

Spinal cord stimulation...

I had an infarction in my spinal cord over 30 years and can walk but have spotty strength in my leg. I suspect lower motor neuron injury.

I use the neurocare 4000 electric stim for my legs and it has kept me healthy but no real significant improvement. For the last couple of weeks I have been trying a technique where I would place one of the pads on lumbar are of my spinal cord and the other on the muscle in my leg. I seem to get a much stronger contraction and I have also been feeling stronger in my leg.

there is no scientific basis for how I am feeling though I don't think it is a placebo effect of all the news about spinal cord stimulation. Has any one else tried this technique.

I was able to find myself a set of 507 wheels. But they have a quickie hub and I use a TiLite chair.
I could rebuild the wheel with the correct hub, but was wondering if I could just get a longer quick release axle.

Anyone have experience with this, trying to figure out which size I would need, or if there are other considerations
I have not thought of

thx for the help

recal prolapse: burnt!

I've been having some muscle spasms in my right leg recently, bad enough to really interfere with my sleep. (I'm t-9 complete, 15 yrs post). My urine is clear, no skin breakdowns visible. But something did happen a month ago that still scares me today.

So about a month ago I had a slight rectal prolapse following my bowel program. After I get out of the shower it usually goes back just fine, often on its own. But unfortunately, while it was still outside my body I did a dumb thing: turned on the hot water and got distracted. The water ended up burning the skin on my butt, anus, vulva and, most scarily, the rectal prolapse. (Yes I have now turned down the water heater.) Bedrest for 3 weeks took care of the outer burns, everything closed up fine, no infection that I could see.

Now I'm paranoid that something is going on inside my rectum that I cannot see. The doctor seemed more concerned with the skin he could see. I am afraid that perhaps he does not understand SCI well enough to deal with something like this. The spasms in my leg have been bad enough to keep me waking up for the past 5 nights, so now I'm all mentally fragile and frustrated. Cried for an hour upon "waking" this morning. Baclofen is not helping.

I know that no one here has the magic ability to look inside my butt (thank god); maybe I just need some support and kind words from people who understand. There are few SCI people in my town, I can go months without seeing another wheelie (especially another female). In that sense, sometimes I feel like a vampire.

United Health Care and catheters

Hey all, hope everyone is okay and as healthy as possible. Just started my new job and insurance is through United Health. Urinary catheters are exempt from the plan for some reason; other than that it seems pretty awesome. I told my HR lady (very helpful woman, btw) that this is basically the only real cost I face and that it would be nice to have it covered since it's not a temporary need, but an ongoing medical necessity. She informed me that she wanted a code, or something of that nature. I am coming from Kaiser northern California which basically covered my caths, however now that I am in Rhode Island, I won't have Kaiser anymore, unfortunately.

So, does anyone here have United Health Care for their insurance and also have their urinary catheters covered? If so, any idea what the insurance code is for caths?? Thanks to any and all for any help!

Online No Script Cipro

So my order arrived from the Canadian Pharmacy....in New Delhi...since when is there a New Delhi Canada? none the less, it's 500mg Ciproflaxin. Same thing that pharmacy takes 2 hours to "dispense." ?? (WHY does it take them two hours to dispense a pre-made drug? they aren't exactly compounding, are they.) Nonetheless, I really don't like going to the doctor EVERY time I get a UTI, and smuggling in a 'Urine Sample' (Good boy! here's a dog treat.)

Anyway, Indians have these...worms or whatever? is that going to be on the drug?

Oh, and the "Canadian Pharmacy" in Indian can KEEP their "bonus Viagra." God forbid, I might get "an erection lasting for more than four hours" and have to call an escort for help :sorry!:

Making a doctor apt?

Is your time JUST as valuable as there's is, and you don't to wait on hold? When the little menu comes up, "Press 9 for a doctor or hospital." "I dunno, I'm a patient, I'm in a wheelchair, your system took me here!" I've SEEN what they do...compare text messages from guys, and chew gum all day. What does one doctor need a staff of like 8 women for, if I'm going to wait on hold for an hour every time their "computer kicks me out?"

Peristeen Urgent Action Needed: Bowel Management Device LCD Draft Policy Pub. Comment

I had posted this in Care forum yesterday. I'm posting it here again today so more people can see it. Please post here after you email your letter to CMS. Moderators, if possible please move it back to the Care forum after Monday, August 31 the deadline to respond to CMS. Thanks.

I have been waiting for the longest time for Peristeen to be available through Medicare. First, there was the inordinate delay in FDA approval of Peristeen. Then Medicare had a code for it but no payment code (or whatever). So, sadly it has just been an empty wait so far.

I just got an email from Kade Agan at Coloplast which I'm copying below. There is a chance for all of us needing Peristeen to tell the concerned decision-maker at Medicare about the urgent need to make Peristeen available to Medicare enrollees by providing a benefit category AND a payment category for it.

So, please send your email letters to Dr. Stacey Brennan at the email address shown below and blind copy them to Valerie Bauler and Kade Agan at their email addresses. This is the only chance of our direct input to the right person at Medicare that I know of. So please, definitely send it before the deadline of Monday, August 31.

Even if you have other insurance paying for your Peristeen, please send your letter in detailing your experience to make it easy for those of us who have only Medicare. Also, in the long run, often private insurance companies tend to follow the CMS lead when deciding their own benefits. In other words, if Medicare approves payment for it, your private insurance will likely not remove the benefit.

Thanks all. Here is the email from Kade Agan:

Subject: URGENT request- Deadline is August 31

All
We are at CMS today to discuss why Peristeen should be allowed to have a benefit category. We know this has created a hardship on many of our customers- those who cannot even begin the process due to Medicare status and those who have been denied insurance coverage because their insurance company recognizes the A4459 code but will not pay because there is no payment category assigned to it.

We would like to have as many patients as possible sending in their stories how Peristeen has impacted their life?s/situation but as well the difference before and after using Peristeen. The deadline is the 31th of August. Please forward this message to any one that you believe would like to have their voices heard. Thank you for taking time to write this e-mail. Their voice WILL be heard!

Key notes:
1. Please do not start off by stating Coloplast ask me to write?. use your own words to describe your situation and your issues.
2. Please blind copy Valerie Bauler usvaba@coloplast.com and Kade Agan uskaga@coloplast.com on your correspondence.

? Brief Introduction & diagnosis/condition/length of impairment
? What have you or your child previously tried and failed before Peristeen (i.e. digital stimulation, simple enema, diet, laxatives, etc.)? Please provide detail as to how these all failed, why was Peristeen prescribed?
? If you or your child have experienced bowel accidents, how has that affected you or your child and/or your family, work, school?
? How does Peristeen affect your and/or your child's day-to-day living, family and quality of life (i.e. went back to school, back to work, able to be social, less time on bowel program, less accidents, etc).
? How would you or your child be hurt if Peristeen was not available? How would it impact your quality of life?

Paralysis: primates recover better than rodents

Monkeys and humans exhibit greater motor recovery than rats after similar spinal cord injury, according to a study conducted in Gregoire Courtine's lab at EPFL. The identification of this primate-specific mechanism of recovery has major implications for future research. Using primate models rather than rat models will improve the design of therapies to repair the human spinal cord and increase the accuracy of predictive models of recovery. The study results have been published in Science Translational Medicine.

Glial cells use lipids to direct neuron organization in the spinal cord

Scientists have discovered that in addition to proteins, lipids are also necessary for guiding axons. The study shows how a phospholipid released by glial cells -- the cells in the nervous system that support neurons -- controls the positioning of sensory neurons within the spinal cord.

Medicare & Durable Equipment Questions

Recently moved to Florida. I am in need of new batteries for powerchair and new cushion. I was referred by Dr to home health agency. They called me and said that Medicare requires 5 visits by them to cover equipment. Is this because I was referred to a home health agency rather than durable equip supplier? I have never needed more than a single visit to have equipment replaced. I am not homebound. Any input is appreciated. I would find this a ridiculous waste of medical dollars if I am required to take 5 visits for this.

Please need advice from Dr Wise / SCI Nurse

Dear Dr Wise
I need your advice / recommendation, please.

I'm 37 yo with a complete SCI at T1 - T2 since 1998 (20 yo), last year I had a laminectomy with screws and bars on T7 to T9 because herniated discs.

A couple of months ago, my back started to crack a lot and I have a ball like a hump. This "hump" fractured 2 vertebrae, So I had surgery on Aug 10th to remove the screws and I'm on antibiotic treatment (Rifampicine 300mg 3 a day and Levofloxacine 750mg 1 a day) to treat what we believe is an infection. Until know all the laboratories results are negative and we are waiting for BAAR results. The blood results shows "inflammation".

Once the infection is gone, they have to put the screws and bars but know from T1 to L5 or lower, so I'm afraid to have such a big surgery.

Everybody say my Dr is the best in Mexico so I'm looking for a second opinion from a specialist in the U.S. Do you give consultation.? Or can you recommend an specialist? (If the specialist is in Houston TX or Miami Flo, much better)

Thank you very much!

Students Summer Research Results in Progress

Eight weeks of intense study and research resulted in interesting progress for twelve students selected to participate in the Keck Center Summer Research Program. Beginning with two weeks of lectures by Dr. Wise Young, the students then attended the Spinal Cord Injury Research Methods Workshop. Next they were divided into four teams to conduct research projects to advance the work of the Center, the results of which were presented at the Summer Open House. A high-point of the Summer Program was attending the Congressional Briefing in Washington, DC.

The four projects were: Gender Hematology of Spinal Cord Trauma, Neuropathic Pain and Microgliosis, Lumbosacral Spinal Cord Injury, and Multi-differentiating Stress-Enduring (MUSE) Cells. Congratulations to the following students for their work in this full-time summer research program: Omar Ashraf, Musdalifa Ayub, Veena Bokka, Nia Carty, Ashwini Chidirala, Meghana Ghattu, Noelle Messina, Shambhavi Metgud, Ameena Rana, Varun Ranpariya, Nehali Thakkar, and Rebekah Wishart. Several of these students will be continuing their research and writing honor theses.

Summer Open House is Big Success

An easy way to sum up the Summer Open House ... a good time was had by all! The Keck Center was packed with science exhibits, vendor displays, and many, many members of the community. We were privileged to hear an excellent presentation by Dr. Paul Lu who shared his exciting research on "Bridging the injured spinal cord with neural stem cells". Also presenting were Marilyn and Bob Hamilton who introduced the Galileo and the principles undergirding its use. Rounding out the program, Dr. Wise Young gave an update on the results of the clinical trials and plans for expansion.

Our sincere appreciation to the Central Jersey Spinal Cord Association for providing the refreshments and to all of the wonderful volunteers who made everything run so smoothly.

Make plans to attend next year's Summer Open House, Thursday, July 21, 2016!

First Friday Night Open House Schedule Resumes October 2nd

Our regular First Friday Open House Schedule will resume on October 2nd with tours of the lab on-going between 5-6pm. At 6:00 Dr. Wise Young will present the latest in spinal cord injury research and clinical trials. The presentation will be followed by time for group questions and personal conversations with Dr. Young.

Our Center is located on the 2nd Floor of the Nelson Biological Laboratories building. Free parking available in Lot 56 in front of building. Click here for detailed directions.

Online source for clamps, etc...?

Does anyone have a decent online source for the kind of tube clamps that secure one tube to another, parallel or otherwise, and tighten with an Allen key? Like a brake clamp. Not bothered by metric or imperial, I can deal with either.

My Mitrofanoff keeps shrinking!

Ever since I had a mitrofanoff channel put in a couple of months ago, I've had the same problem. The channel shrinks until (a) the opening looks considerably smaller and (b) it becomes difficult to fit in a size 14 catheter.

This is a problem for me because I'm extremely difficult to catheterise urethrally so I've basically got the mitrofanoff and that's it. If I can't get a catheter in then I have to go down to ER and have them catheterise me with a cystoscope and a guide wire which is hellishly painful for me.

So anyway, the opening becomes more difficult and so I stick a catheter in and leave it in for a week or two. Then I take the catheter out and within a day I'm back to square 1 again. This has happened three times and I'm sick of it. What should I do? Thanks in advance.

Standard Adjustable Height Backrest - Black Only
Calf Strap - Black Only

These are my questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. My actual seat width is 14.5" so an inch or so on either side puts me at 17" but I don't mind the extra 1" width since my previous chair was a bit wide and I'd rather have it a bit wider at 18" than too narrow and my camber angle will be 4? this time not 0?. I don't think the extra 1" width is a big deal. Is it?

2. I was told that your seat depth should be 2" shorter than the distance from the back of your back to the back of your knees which in my case is 19". This puts me at 17" which is the cut off between a short frame (max. 16" depth) and a long frame (19" max. depth). So, I'm thinking the short frame with a depth of 16" is what I should get. I am 6" 0" but I am considered to be an L2 para with excellent core strength and I'm not worried about leaning forward to pick up stuff off of the floor. Also, my seat dump will be 2" and this will probably put me (I will sink) a bit further back in my backrest by about an inch or so and I'm really trying to avoid having the back of my knees resting against my seat cushion. Therefore, I think I should get the shorter frame with a seat depth of 16". If I am wrong please tell me why.

3. I am also wondering about my choice of seat dump of 2" combined with a camber angle of 4? since I had zero for both on my previous chair. I have played wheelchair basketball in a chair with similar seat dump but with a lot more camber angle and I found it to be a much better fit. What is the relationship between seat dump and camber angle. Will this chair be "too tippy" for an everyday chair? The good thing about this chair is that both (seat height and camber angle) are adjustable. Is this something where you won't really know until you try it?

4. My last question is about dealers in my area. I live near Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and the Colours website is trying to tell me that my nearest dealer is in Moose Jaw (Yes, that is the actual name of a town), Saskatchewan. That can't be right. Edmonton has over a million residents and Calgary, Alberta has 1.2 million residents, whereas Moose Jaw is a very small city by comparison. Does anyone know of a Colours dealer in the province of Alberta?

That's it. Let me know what you think.

A.

Wheelchair Control System

hi all ,
I`m due for a new power wheelchair in the coming months and are wondering what other control systems there are available that would be better suited to my needs ? I have been using sip and puff for a number of years and with a new chair I thought of another system I could start to use. my injury is c2 complete so I have no voluntary use of any neck muscles so my head movement is very limited. I have read about tongue drive systems but I believe they are in the experimental stage. I am located in Australia, any thoughts ?

Dr Wise please need advise

Ed pill

So I took Cialis about a year ago and it went really bad, ended up having to go get injected with whatever. Anyways the weird thing is I don't maintain that direction for over four hours, the penis just swells up skin looks like it's been in water a long time, and on the left side just under the head gets a big red bump! It's really weird.

Last night I took Viagra, the same thing happened but this time it started to swell up under the head (same place as before ) within like an hour of me taking the drug. So I iced it this morning and got a lot better, less swelling and less red what is going on don't get it one time I took the blue pill in Vegas and it worked fine!

Need bed ideas

My current bed is a full size, 10+ years old, had adjustable head and feet but no longer works, so I think it's time for a new. I'm just having a really hard time figuring out what to get. Should I go with memory foam or air mattress? Or should I just get a spring mattress with a foam or air topper? What size mattress should I go with, twin or another full? I like the extra room of the full, but that means a lot more work for my PCAs having to reach and pull me across the bed. Are hospital beds the same size as a twin mattress? A little about me. I'm a C5-6, weigh about 170 and I'm 6'4. I'm unable to turn myself. I'd like a bed with adjustable head and feet and also elevates. My PCAs give me range of motion and also help me get dressed in bed, so a bed that elevates would help their back. Any quads in a similar situation have any recommendations? It would be nice to find someplace that I could buy and try out a mattress for a while and return it if I don't like it. I had bought a new bed, full size tempur pedic last memorial day, but I cancelled the order because I wasn't sure. The place I got it, Becker, didn't have a return policy, only an exchange policy for something equal or greater value.

Thanks

Fusion 16 axles for Terminator T6

I found a couple of fusion 16 wheels in my garage.

They look really nice. I went in to replace my spinergys and...

It did not work. The hub is significantly more narrow on the fusion16. I cannot mess with axle itself. It looks like over a 1 inch difference.

I was hoping that somebody here might know offhand what size axles I need to make this work.

Thanks.

What exercises do you do to improve balance

My balance and posture is not good and I want to make it better so I can be sit right without back support.
My injury is t9 level and I have some core control but not enough to move back and forth.

Most important for me, not enough to make me stay with my chest up. My posture is pretty bad and I have no information how to correct this with exercises. My fear is that i hurt my new hardware that they have implanted in my back because each time I try to do anything about it it hurts so much and I am only 8 months post injury.

Exercises Ive tried are touching the ground from my wheelchair sideways and in front and returning using the core and trying to stay sit upright using the core without hands.

Please share your exercises that have worked for you so we can learn from each other.
Seems like correct posture and balance are key factor for a good active life with this injury.

Muscle contractions in a complete injury

Im 8 months post injury t9 level.
Until now no signs of voluntary movements or sensitivity except the burning and tingling sensation in my legs so I guess I am a complete.
Spasms were frequent in the first two months then became less and less and now they give me no more trouble sleeping and moving.
I have to mention that I haven't been in any medical treatment with pills and very little home therapy with a PT, 1 hour a day.

Suddenly , this past 2 months that I have started pool therapy and supported standing to activate the core something new has showed up.
My legs have become very sensitive to touch and each time I try to stretch my legs they extend with toes pointing down and throw me back off balance.
My gluts and quadriceps are most of the time contracted and feel pretty normal. Just that I can't voluntary control them.

This makes it very hard for me to dress and transfer but if it has any benefits Im willing to take the suffer for the greater good.
Anyone has any information or the same situation ?

Puberty development in 2 year old female with Transverse Myelitis (quadriplegic)

Dr. Young or anyone that might have any knowledge about this....
I run a TM support group over on Facebook.
One of my members is a mom with a 2 year old female child that has Transverse Myelitis and is quadriplegic.
Developed TM at 6 months of age and has been in a care facility since onset.
Mom informed us yesterday that her daughter is showing signs of the onset of puberty by having a period.
Apparently the doctor informed her that this is somewhat common in adolescents with spinal cord injuries/diseases.
Any thoughts on this....???
And if this is fact, can you provide me with a link to some sort of scholarly material to read..???
I am very curious about this and wish to learn more.
Thank you,
Kevin

Question for Dr. Young about neurosurgeons in China

Dr. young to remember you making a statement that some of the best neurosurgeons are located in China, And that opening up the dura and washing out the necrotic tissue is not an uncommon thing to hear about when it comes to the subject of SCI. Where is here in the west that is a pretty taboo thing to do monks neurosurgeons. I can't remember correctly but are there surgeons in China that are skilled at removing the scar tissue from the spinal cord?

Issue on my butt

I have an area about an inch and a half long that leads from my anus back towards my tailbone area. It gets puffy and swollen almost seems like a swollen artery or blood vessel. When this area swells and gets hard my skin breaks down. I have hemorrhoids but don't think this would be considered one. I have went to my general practitioner for a physical and when I mention it to him all he says is that there are dry skin areas. He doesn't seem to get what I am talking about. Has anyone had any issues like this?

Bladder management - enuresis

I'm at a loss and looking for advice or suggestions.
I have a 17 year old cervical fusion. I've had increased pain and spasticity that has taken me from being unmedicated to taking about 20 pills a day. I'm on Indian health care so everything moves rather slowly as far as referrals go.
My problem is bed-wetting. If I fall asleep, I will wet myself. Initially, it began with me waking to go to the bathroom between 3 and 6 times a night now I just sleep through it. I've got recurrent UTIs, bladder hesitancy during the day and incontinence at night. CT showed a 6mm kidney stone, but urologist insists it can't be causing my pain or problems because it's in the lower lobe, not touching anything. I've got an mri in a week but I won't see my neurologist until October.
I am currently wetting through a maximum capacity pull-up type diaper and soaking my pajamas and a "puppy pad". My urologist told me in no uncertain terms that I was to not insert an indwelling catheter because I have full bladder capacity and a catheter would cause my bladder to shrink. Part of my bladder issues is medication. I'm on 90 mg of baclofen a day and my spasticity is still barely controlled.

Im spending quite a bit of money on bladder products every month that I can barely afford.
What do I do? Any suggestions on better products I could be using? Any thoughts on whether I should ignore the doc and put in a catheter anyway?

Transgender etiquette question

I was having an online discussion with a woman who had transgendered from male. She saw some pets in a store locked up with no aircon or fans going on the weekend and called 911 - four times. She then called the operator a 'heartless bitch,' because the operator said it wasn't important. (Calling the pet store only got you a voicemail with no option to leave a message. I said calling New York City 911 4 times seemed a bit excessive).

I mentioned that perhaps they were inundated with other calls - you never know what's going on. She proceeded to tell me that operator's job and called her a heartless bitch again.

I said I thought that was a little misogynistic ... I don't like it when women tear others down, especially using a derogatory term like, 'bitch.'

She then went on this tirade asking me if I was aware of her gender and accused me of calling her a man because I said her terminology was misogynistic. I pride myself on being politically and socially correct.

I know it's difficult to tell in a relayed third party conversation ... but was I wrong? So a female who has transitioned from male cannot be misogynistic by default?

Transgender etiquette question

Live in caregivers

I have some questions about live in caregivers. Obviously we all have our own bedroom, then I'm assuming we share the rest of the house? Do they pay rent? Or is it a reduced rent or free as part of the payment for being a caregiver? Can anyone that has experience with live in caregivers tell me what it's like? Any tips, do's and don't's?

Thanks

Is it a syrinx?

Hi,

Have been having neurological symptoms for the last 3 years in flares and have had multiple tests to look at things with nil resolve. I noticed that in my Cervical MRI in 2012 that my central canal was prominent from C3 to C7 and measured to be as 1.1mm. In 2014 it shows central canal prominence with a maximum of 2.0 mm transverse in size.

Could this possibly be a syrinx rather than just a prominent central canal as from my understanding, the central canal should remain the same size and a change in size could be indicative of disease progression?

Would really be interested in your thoughts on this.

I am also booking in to to get another MRI in about 3 weeks but this time it will be a stand up mri with cervical spine in flexion, extension and neutral positions.

Thanks in advance. Hopeful someone will be able to give me some insight on this.

Looking for spinal cord surgeon/expert to read MRI for a cost for second opinion

Dear All,

I am looking for an experienced and a very good spinal cord surgeon/expert who is willing to read MRI for certain cost to get a second opinion for my Dad's condition. This will be done via the internet where I will send my Dad's MRI then to have it analyzed and discussion with me or/and or my dad through phone/email/Skype.

On the background, my dad had a tumor at his spinal cord, already removed at Singapore by a neurosurgeon over there and regularly visit a pain specialist doctor at Singapore. But his pain is still very much bothering him although he already have a spinal cord stimulator implanted and the device already checked to be working normal. When I was contacting various spinal cord clinic/doctors, one took the liberty of reading my Dad's MRI and found other problem that was not found by the doctor in Singapore. So before we travel to another continent to visit this doctor, getting a second opinion that at least confirm this new finding would be very helpful. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Posting Bud Porn, Old Toby - OG Goji - Sour Tsunami, from seed

Finally have things working well.

Do they look ready? Don't see many amber triches yet.

Most of the seeds I planted turned out male.

The Sour Tsunami looks a lot like it's parent. The Goji is a little like the original, but the Old Toby has the most trich production with Goji being next.

I seem to be doing just as well with the flood and drain system as I am with bubble buckets. I've got the bubble buckets hooked together with a chiller and pump re-circulating the res into the buckets like 8 times a day to keep temps within range but the huge res for the flood and drain stays within temps because the pump isn't running constantly heating the water.

Took me forever to resize pics down to a point where they would upload. New digs don't like big pics...

Next round I'll be running Blue berry and God Bud and demo's strawberry cough. Can't wait to see how they do in a clean environment. The first time I had them I also had so many mites that I never saw anything finish or how well they can do. This was a risk since the patient who grew them said he used eagle 20 and forbid 4f, AFTER I met and paid for them, but I was able to keep them in a closet for a month while they came back from a near chemical death. They are now exploding with new fresh growth with NO sign of mites. So it can be worth the risk if you have the energy and space to keep them quarantined for a few weeks at least.

Hope all is well and if their are any patients in need of healing RSO, Fully Extracted Cannabis Oil, and you haven't tried it yet or have tried it and didn't like the way it was made or the way it tasted, feel free to get in touch for a free gram. Even if it's just to show yourself that not all RSO is the same.

VitaminCBD is also making a very clean and healthy rso. Haven't tried it but everything I've tried of his has been great.

wtb Spring for composite scissor wheel locks

These are the Out Front compact composite scissor wheel locks. They are in great shape except for a broken spring in one of them. I found replacement spring at southwestmedical.com for a pretty reasonable $4.50, but it also had $24.90 shipping. So $30 for one tiny spring. I only paid $100 for two new entire wheel locks! Does anyone have an alternate source? Even though these locks have a poor reputation for reliability, I really like using them.

Why does my back arch...normal?

T6 complete, I have noticed that when I sit straight up, in my chair, or even being upright in my standing frame, that my back tends to arch so that if I put my hand behind me there is space between my spine and backrest down around the lower half of my back. The problem is my back only touches my backrest at the top edge of it because of the arch. I didn't even know it did this for years. Is this an issue with anyone else, and is it normal? Doctors and therapists have ever said anything, so I'm wondering if it's because some muscles aren't stretched like they should be, but I don't know which ones would cause my back to arch if they are tight. I don't know...

Why does my back arch...normal?

High pressure tubes necessary?

I just got some right runs that hold 145 psi. Before putting them on I pinched a tube removing my old marathons. So I just used a spare tube I keep in my car. Pumped it up to 140 used it for about an hour before the tube exploded in Lowes. I thought I had been shot : ) Anyway, should I go for a high pressure specific tube as a replacement?

Something like this...http://ift.tt/1LtrKab

Or should any tube be ok, and my issue was just a coincidence?

SUMMARY
OF
RESULTS
AND
SETTINGS
Four
different
programs
have
been
saved
on
your
stimulator
that
can
be
accessed
by
the
remote
control
and
are
named
Program
D1,
D2,
D3,
D4.
All
programs
have
a
fixed
frequency
of
40Hz
and
a
pulse
width
of
200ms.
The
amplitude/intensity
of
stimulation
can
be
adjusted
through
the
remote
control,
as
was
explained
when
you
were
here.
Stimulation
configuration
of
Program
D1--‐4
With
each
program,
a
different
combination
of
electrodes
is
activated
on
the
array
that
has
been
implanted
on
your
spinal
cord.
See
program
name
and

and

D2:

and
adduction
D3:

D4:

and

Activation
for
training
standing
For
training
standing
you
want
to
increase
mostly
extensor
activity
(with
little
flexor
activity
for
stabilization).
For
this
reason
the
best
program
to
use
while
training
standing
is
a
combination
of
D1
and
D4.
The
intensity
of
these
programs
needs
to
be
tuned
properly
to
have
a
balance
between
activation
of
flexors
and
extensors.
We
saw
that
this
can
most
easily
be
checked
when
looking
at
the
muscle
activation
of
the
thigh,
just
above
the
knee.
Best
is
to
balance
the
muscle
activation
so
you
have
a
bit
more
activation
of
extensors
(frontside
of
leg)
compared
to
flexors
(backside
of
leg).
Be
careful
to
start
with
low
intensity
around
the
threshold
for
muscle
activation
(see
below).
Starting
at
high
intensity
will
give
a
‘hock’effect
when
stimulation
is
started.
At
a
later
stage
of
training,
to
perform
a
flexion
movement
at
the
hip
e.g.
for
lifting
the
knee,
it
might
be
helpful
to
involve
program
D2,
but
this
all
depends
on
the
results
of
training.
Threshold
for
muscle
activation
The
thresholds
can
change
quite
a
bit
when
comparing
different
positions
such
as
lying
down
or
standing.
The
threshold
for
muscle
activation
for
Program
D1
+
D4
was
around
2.8--‐3.0V.
This
is
when
you
start
seeing
the
first
signs
of
activation
of
muscles
in
the
legs.
Optimal
stimulation
for
muscle
activation
for
standing
The
goal
for
the
most
appropriate
training,
is
to
find
the
optimal
stimulation
for
1)
activating
the
legs
with
stimulation,
combined
with
2)
the
possibility
to
activate
your
legs
yourself.
This
can
be
different
from
day
to
day
(especially
when
you
start
using
stimulation),
this
can
change
within
a
session
(due
to
e.g.
fatigue),
and
can
evolve
with
training.
So
the
optimal
setting
should
be
quickly
checked
every
time
you
use
the
stimulation,
to
see
if
it
can
be
optimized.
Careful:
this
can
be
either
an
increase
or
a
decrease
of
intensity.
As
pointed
out
above,
first
start
stimulation
around
the
threshold,
then
gradually
increase
the
intensity
until
the
point
where
you
see
good
muscle
activation
for
standing.
--‐ Start
with
increasing
the
intensity
of
1
program
e.g.
Program
D4
and
tune
the
extensor
activity
of
the
leg
above
the
knee
on
the
frontside
of
the
leg.
--‐ When
you
see
nice
activation,
change
to
Program
D1
and
tune
the
intensity
of
this
program
as
well,
activating
(together
with
others)
the
muscles
above
the
knee
on
the
backside
of
the
leg.
--‐ Usually
you’l
have
to
go
back
to
Program
D4
to
adjust
a
little
bit,
to
balance
out
the
activation
between
the
frontside
and
backside
of
the
leg.
Here
we
found
quite
a
difference
between
the
two
days.
--‐
DAY
1:
Program
D1
optimal:
6.8V
Program
D4
optimal:
5V
--‐
DAY
2:
Program
D1
optimal:
9.4V
Program
D4
optimal:
8V
What
we
saw
was
that
on
Day
1
you
were
able
to
willingly
decrease
the
activation
of
muscles
(that
were
activated
by
stimulation),
however
this
happened
when
you
tried
to
activate
the
legs.
On
Day
2
you
also
showed
what
you
showed
on
Day
1,
however
on
this
day
you
were
also
able
to
increase
the
activation
of
extensor
muscles
of
the
leg,
which
are
needed
to
stand.
This
is
very
appropriate/useful
activation
to
learn
and
improve
active
standing.
And
this
is
what
should
be
trained.
REMINDER:
the
stimulation
has
been
optimized
for
training
standing,
since
it
focuses
on
constantly
activating
mainly
extensor
muscles
and
whole
limb
extension
for
bearing
weight
on
your
legs.
This
is
the
first
task
that
should
be
trained.
If
rhythmic
movements
can
be
made
voluntarily
with
bending
and
straightening
both
legs
independently,
another
program
should
be
used
to
optimize
the
training
of
such
movements.

Deleting old CareCure account

So, I haven't logged into carecure in a long time due to being busy with school. When I tried to get into my account, an old account popped up instead of this one. How do I delete my old account that I haven't used in over 10 years?

Thanks

Big Cedar Lodge, MO

Hey guys - I know I haven't been here in forever due to being very busy with pharmacy school.... but I was wondering if anyone here has been to the big cedar lodge in Missouri and if it was accessible for a para? Hubby and I are wanting to go there to celebrate my graduation in May. Thanks!

Vertebral body replacement (VBR)

OPM?s SpineFab device is a vertebral body replacement (VBR) intended for use in the thoracolumbar regions of the spine to replace a collapsed, damaged, or unstable vertebral body due to tumor or trauma. To gain this FDA clearance, OPM?s VBR implant system underwent extensive static and dynamic mechanical testing to assure it meets load and fatigue requirements as well as regulatory guidelines for its intended use...

New approach to spinal cord and brain injury research

"If you injure a peripheral nerve, it will regenerate, spontaneously. It moves quite slowly, so it's one of our objectives to speed it up, but it does regenerate," Twiss says. "In contrast, with an injury to your spinal cord, it's not going to regenerate."
Over the past five years, Twiss and Kalinski have uncovered some of the molecular details of how nerve recovery takes place in the periphery. A particular focus of their research is on how the nerve constructs proteins, one of the fundamental building blocks involved in any kind of cell growth or re-growth.....

Terminology..complete-incomplete vs. ASIA

From my readings on these forums over the years, I've learned that the terms "complete" and "incomplete" are passe'. ASIA classification is the proper way to evaluate a spinal cord injury, and predict recovery outcome.

1. Are insurance companies using complete/incomplete or ASIA?

2. Why does the community itself continue to use the wrong terms?

3. Why does the "Average Josephine" like to ask..."was your cord severed?"

If even we as a community continue to be small minded and lazy about the terms we use, how can we expect anything different from the medical professions and research?

ADI backs - Can they be ordered shorter? Also car questions.

Hello,

I have been looking into ADI CF backs for a while but the ''low'' option seems to be a bit too tall - I have a 13X13 TR with the back set at 8.5'' - almost 100% certain a 10'' back would be too tall if you factor in that this is just the shell and my 3'' Ride cushion. Their site says: ''* Support height measurements are based on the height of the shell. Cushion and cover add approximately 2″'. It certainly wouldn't have any adjustability if it fit somehow. I remember seeing a pediatric Tilite picture somewhere with a pink ADI back that was clearly smaller than the lowest option they have on their website (I don't want it pink but lower would be nice!). Do you have any idea if you're able to request something like that or does it cost significantly more?

Also, does it add a lot of weight and how do you load your chair into the car? Do you take it off the chair (ie. would I be better off getting quick release option or fixed) or leave it? Currently I just pop the rear wheels off and pass the entire chair including cushion over to the passenger side. I would rather not have to fumble to take the back off in winter in -40oC weather with frozen fingers.

My only other option it seems would be the Jay Zip pediatric back, they say a 12X12 back weighs in at 2.5 lbs with hardware, so I don't know. How much does the ADI weigh with hardware? Edit: Found approx weights: http://ift.tt/1PI77pw

If anyone has used it, please chime in! Thanks.

IV and Exercise

I had a variety of IV lines placed over the last year. What I find to be important is to keep moving and pushing a wheelchair ? from finding a balance between too little and too much is easier said than done.

Other any rules of thumb regarding IV lines and manual assist wheelchair movement?

Cheap Chux

I use 17" x 24" Chux as underpads and have found that doggie training pads are a lot cheaper. Can get your own size but in 33 years these are the cheapest I have ever found. The unit costs is less than $.10.

These actually come through Amazon.com but be careful which ones you select because sometimes the shipping is way out of line.

explaining to kids

I have a 5 and 8 year old nephews who live with my mom and I. They have asked on more than one occasion how I pee and poop. I cath through my belly so I don't mind telling them that or explaining it a little but how do I explain a bowel program to those ages? They know I have a solution I put in my belly which is my enema but not sure how else to explain it. They know sometimes I sit upstairs longer somedays and other days I get right in the shower. Any ideas?
