Anyone else have this problem? and/or a solution?
I've got a manual chair with a regular type of sling back it's a TiLite brand on a ZRA. Basically its a nylon shell with some kind of foam on the inside.
When I sit in the chair for a reasonable amount of time, like two to three hours my lower back starts to sweat, enough that it pretty well saturates the shirt I'm wearing and makes the back a little wet to the touch as well (and somewhat smelly after a while).
I'm not sure why this is happening. I didn't have this problem with my first chair. As far as i am aware the TiLite back isn't waterproof and should be at least somewhat breathable.
I don't think it's an SCI thing, though the back covers the transition area between where I have sensation and where I have none (T8ish, never had any issues with AD or inappropriate sweating in any other situation). Nothing like this happens when I lie on my back in bed or sit on the couch, etc. For a while I was even applying deodorant to my back to cut down on the perspiration, but this didn't work terribly well.
So I'm assuming the sling back just doesn't breathe properly.
Has this happened to any of you?
I'm getting a chair evaluation next month and need to go in with exactly what I want in a chair back. I don't really like solid backs because I tend to slouch way back in my chair sometimes and haven't found one that doesn't cut into my back when I do this. So I'd like to stick with a sling back, but I'd like something more breathable I guess? Does anyone make a universal type sling back? I don't like the Tilite one for other reasons (it's hard to get fitted snugly to the seat posts and I hate the huge logo in the middle of the back).
Thanks for your input.
