Meanwhile, back in Seattle's medical dispensary scene...what scene?!

I received this in my email inbox yesterday from Seattle Medical Marijuana Associates or SMMA (copy/paste pertinent highlights of email):

At the beginning of the year, more than 350 medical marijuana access points existed within Seattle city limits. Over the last few months, that number has been diminished to 40.

"That leaves just 40 access points that remain open, and we're happy to report that we're one of them."

Medical Marijuana Patients and Advocates,

As you may have heard, the City of Seattle recently sent Cease & Desist letters to 59 of the 99 medical marijuana dispensaries still open in Seattle's city limits. That leaves just 40 access points that remain open, and we're happy to report that we're one of them.

There are a number of changes that will be imposed starting in less than two weeks, on August 17. This includes a restructuring that will limit some of the edibles we currently offer and the removal of all discount programs, including our punch card for a free eight. This being the case, we're having a fire sale on some of our products that you'll need to check out, details below.

We're also happy to report that while our industry is seemingly in constant flux, the City of Seattle and the State of Washington has given us an opportunity, and mapped a path for us to remain open for years to come. We are dedicated to our patients, and look forward to being one of Washington's fully legal medical marijuana dispensaries.

We hope to see you soon, and remember above all else, we're here to help.

Furthermore, SMMA also wrote:

Seattle Imposes New Regulations
Coupons and Discounts No Longer Allowed

Along with the medible restrictions, the City of Seattle also imposed a new set of regulations which restricts all medical marijuana facilities from having any type of coupon, discount or promotion.

So what does this mean for our patients?

First, all past coupons and discounts that you may have received as a patient from SMMA will no longer be applicable starting August 17. This includes but is not limited to, our Senior Discount, our Military Discount, and all other discounts.

It also means that our in store promotions such as our Free Eight Punch Card and our Refeer-A-Patient program will no longer be available starting August 17.

So if you have a Free Eight Punch Card, or a 2 Free Grams Card that you were hoping to redeem, you have to redeem them before August 17.

Because we love our patients, we also lifting the 4 punches per visit limit to help you fill up your punch card a little more quickly.

We're sorry about this disappointing news, but will continue to bring our patients the best valued products that we can. If you have any questions about these new policies, our budtenders can answer them for you next time you come in.

Me: Did I hear accusations of greedy rec businesses?
