Dr. Melitta Schachner to be Honored in Heidelberg
For the first time in fifty years, the University of Heidelberg in Germany will present an Honorary Degree. The recipient of this esteemed award is our own Dr. Melitta Schachner. Dr. Schachner is a Distinguished Professor, member of the faculty of the Department of Cell Biology and Neuroscience at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, and was selected by the New Jersey Commission on Spinal Cord Research as New Jersey Professor in Spinal Cord Injury Research. She is a prodigious writer and one of the most highly cited researchers in the field. The ceremony will be held November 30th in Heidelberg.
First Friday Night Open House November 6th
Last month people braved a dreadful storm to attend the First Friday Open House. We are hoping for nicer weather on Friday, November 6th! Tours of the lab are on-going between 5-6:00pm. At 6:00 Dr. Wise Young will present the latest in spinal cord research and clinical trials, followed by time for group questions and personal conversations with Dr. Young.
Our Center is located on the 2nd Floor of the Nelson Biological Laboratories building on Rutgers' Busch Campus. Free parking available in Lot 56 in front of building. Click here for detailed directions.
RU-WINS Presents "Wired for Touch"
"Wired for touch: the neurons and circuits of the sense that connects us to others" is the intriguing topic of Dr. Victoria Abraira's RU-WINS Lecture. As a member of the Department of Neurobiology at Harvard Medical School, Dr. Abraira studies all sensory systems including skin, our largest sensory organ.
Dr. Abraira will speak on Friday, November 6th at 12:00 noon in D-406, Nelson Biological Laboratories Building. The public is invited. Following the lecture, Dr. Abraira will meet with students over pizza to discuss science, career paths, and other topics of interest.
