I have read and researched and cannot find an answer, so I'm asking here. Here's the preface:
I had a few oz left from last year. I had diligently trimmed, burped, cured and stored (in the dark and around 70 degrees or less). It was all kept in mason jars with canning lids. It still smokes great and has nice body. But, the smell isn't as strong and it has turned sort of golden.
I just visited with a friend, and he has had the same experience. But he told me that he has a mutual friend who stored large mature colas with all their leaves intact. And when he needs some, he digs into a large lidded opaque plastic tote and pulls out a cola, removes the leaves and 'viola', the inner buds are still bright green!
I don't think the large totes are really air tight but I can't swear to it.
Is is it possible that gas exchanges shouldn't just stop after a month as in mason jars?
What is the best way to do long term storage?
