For anyone in the US not aware of this, starting in January 2016 there will be more restrictions on complex rehab wheelchairs for Medicare and Medicaid. As most of you know, even if you have private insurance, as go Medicare and Medicaid, other insurances will soon follow.
This is a short overview of the re-introduced legislation that need support. For more information, go to http://ift.tt/1OTOONo.

H.R. 3229- Congress Must Act to Protect CRT Wheelchair Accessories
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has announced that it will apply Competitive Bid Pricing (CBP) to Complex Rehab wheelchair accessories effective January 1, 2016. This violates the intent of past Congressional legislation and would inappropriately reduce payment rates for 171 product codes from 20% to 50%.
If not rescinded, this will hurt Medicare beneficiaries with significant disabilities as it will cause major decreases in availability (or outright elimination) of individually configured Complex Rehab wheelchair systems that these individuals rely on. These access problems will also extend to children and adults with disabilities covered under Medicaid and other health insurance programs.

H.R. 1516/S. 1013- A Separate Benefit is Needed for CRT
The Complex Rehab Technology (CRT) community needs the support of people like you to ensure that individuals with complex medical needs and disabilities receive the best care and equipment. Legislation has been reintroduced in both the House and Senate to provide appropriate recognition and coverage of CRT by creating a Separate Benefit Category within the existing Medicare program. This separate category would result in CRT being classified in its own category separate from standard DME items such as commodes, hospital beds, and basic wheelchairs. This distinction would allow the creation of CRT-specific policies relating to coverage, coding, and supplier standards. The intent is that once this distinction is established by Medicare, it would then be adopted by Medicaid and private insurance plans. The Bills are H.R.1516 and S.1013, the "Ensuring Access to Quality Complex Rehabilitation Technology Act of 2015".
