I am looking to purchase my very 1st power wheelchair and I am looking for advice and recommendations as what those of you that are using power chairs and what your experiences have been. Here is a list of what I am looking for in the order of importance.
1. RELIABILTY - I live in North Dakota which has EXTREME weather variations, hot in the summer and very, very cold in the winter with varying participation. I live on a farm so I am not always rolling on smooth, flat concrete or asphalt.
2. Comfort/functionality. - I want to be able to use the seat and back cushion/rest of my choosing to minimize skin irritation and pressure sores. I also what the chair to be functional meaning that it isn't too big to maneuver in and out of tight places.
3. Serviceable. - This goes along with the reliability issue I want a chair that can be easily maintained with the ability to repair and/or replace parts as needed myself or with minor assistance.
4. Fashionable - This is the vain side of me but I want a chair that looks good as the chair is an extension of me
5. Cost - I am not too concerned about cost as long as the chair meets the above 4 criteria but it will be a factor if the overall price is WAY out there.
A little about myself - I am a C7 para 32+ years post injury with a long history of shoulder pain/issues (mainly form a torn rotator cuff injury). I am/was 6 feet tall and weigh 190lbs. I am as active as I can be and work out of the home 40+ hours a week. I sometimes travel for both work and leisure and I drive an accessible van. I am currently using a Quickie ridged frame chair with E-motion wheels.
I really appreciate any information, advice and/or recommendations that you have.
THANKS!
