Does anyone use voice recognition in conjunction with eye tracking?

I really need to upgrade my obsolete laptop, but have been procrastinating because I dread switching to NaturallySpeaking. Lately I've been thinking the switch might not be so bad if I had an alternate way of moving the cursor. I'm going to look into the Tobii, and I know there are cheaper eye tracking systems out there. But is eye tracking as memory intensive as voice recognition? Can I realistically run both on a laptop? If anyone is already doing this, I'd really like to know the specs of your system. :)

Swelling / edema? what is normal?

Hi all.

How much swelling or edema is "normal" for you, or in general for people who spend a good number of hours daily in a wheelchair?

I was injured at age 20, and for about the first 15 years, swelling in my feet and ankles was extremely rare. Basically nonexistent, no matter how much salt I ate.

In the last couple years, swelling has been an off-and-on thing, but now almost halfway into my 18th year paralyzed, my feet and ankles seem to be swelling with more regularity.

I average 12-15 hours per day in my chair - but that's not new. I have averaged those hours pretty much ever since I came home from rehab. And I weightshift regularly, usually tilting and reclining back fully for at least a few minutes every 30 minutes.

I have started to limit my sodium intake a bit, and am wearing compression socks with more regularity. I am given Lasix as needed. My daily water input/output probably averages about 3 L.

Really the primary variable that has changed is my age. At 39, maybe my body is not eliminating the fluid as efficiently?

How much Vitamin C for UTI prevention

Saw a Urologist last week for ongoing UTI's. My regular one was on vacation so saw a different female doc. I had a Cystoscopy done to check the bladder for stones etc. All looked great and no problems there.

She kind of read me out for takin antibiotics too often because of my urine getting so cloudy and mucky. She said according to the guidelines, anyone who intermittence catheterizes will be colonized and show a UTI on tests sent in. Only under certain circumstance should antibiotics be used. Pissed me of a bit, no pun intended, as she treated me like I knew nothing about how to determine when I knew I had an infection. I understand about colonization etc. but the silt in the catheter is unusual for me so was just checking things out.

She said I should be taking Vit. C in large doses to change the PH inside my bladder to minimize UTI's. It's been four days after finishing off a round of Macrobid and the catheter filled up with silt this morning. So I downed a couple of Vit. C totaling 2,000mg and poured in the water. Took another 1,000 later in the day.Things seemed to have cleared up, for now.

I don't want to overdo on Vit.C so what's considered too much Vit. C?

Depression

How many people on here feel depressed? The pain sucks and you just make it through the day sometimes. You are supposed to look forward to another year? I have diabetes and I am way over weight and and I chew tobacco and feel like shit most of the time. So I don't think I am going to live that many more years. If I wasn't married and have three kids I wouldn't be around. Yea to a happy New Year. I am on amitrypytiline for pain and depression but it doesn't seem to do anything. Has anybody got any meds that they think will help with depression? I am going to the doctor's tomorrow for the exact same things that I feel like I have been there for 1000 times in the past several years. I don't see depression talked about that much on here but it must be an issue for others as well. Hopefully tomorrow is better.

Testosterone

Like most males in chairs our test levels drop. My family dr agrees my levels are low for my age but won't start me on test for side effects I won't live long enough to see. I got my hands on liquid test and taking small amounts once a week and love how I feel between mood, energy, sex drive and gaining muscle. My source has dried up now and I'm wondering what to do. I can all ready feel loss of energy and over all drive. Anyone out there done the same, how should I handle it? Live in Canada so it's not like I can shop around till I find a DR willing to help.
